A two hour documentary based on the book, Galileo's Daughter, by Dava Sobel, starring Simon Callow as Galileo.

The discoveries made by Galileo and his subsequent trial by the Papal authorities remain one of the defining moments in the struggle between religion and scientific method in 17th century Europe.

We gain a new and intimate understanding of Galileo through the letters written to him by his illegitimate daughter, Maria Celeste - played by Laura Nardia. At 13, Maria Celeste entered the convent of San Matteo. As she begins her life of prayer we follow her devoted relationship with her father through her letters to him, which continue throughout his subsequent trials and punishment.
