Nigel Ashcroft -
Managing Director
Nigel has edited and produced over 60 hours of programmes commissioned by a wide
range of international television companies including National Geographic, WNET,
WGBH, The Discovery Channel, BBC and Channel 4. He has worked in drama,
commercials, animation and music programming, as well as Natural History and
Science. He edited the world's most awarded music promo of all time: Peter
Gabriel's acclaimed 'Sledgehammer'.
1987 saw the production of the British Academy nominated Indian wildlife trilogy
for Channel 4's Fragile Earth strand. 'Wild India' followed for Channel 4 and the
Discovery Channel and then the Emmy award winning 'Crater of the Rain God'.
Following 'Mystery of the Senses' for PBS, Nigel produced an episode of the first
series of 'The Ultimate Guide' for the Discovery Channel. He then series-produced
the next four series of the Ultimate Guide - 11 episodes in all. In a break from
science and wildlife production in 2001, Nigel produced a lifestyle series for HTV
on his long-time passion of 4-wheel drive and in particular Off-Road Racing,
entitled 'Dirty Weekend'.
'Journey to the Centre of the Earth' was one of Green Umbrella's most ambitious
projects. Produced in high definition, the 2 hour special was produced for the
Discovery Channel and HD Theatre. The series contained drama, cutting edge science
and state-of -the-art graphics and special effects about just what is under our
feet. 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth' won the Best Earth Science programme
award at the 2003 Jackson Hole Film Festival.
Most recently, Nigel directed a PBS high definition astronomy special entitled
Seeing in the Dark, based on Timothy Ferris' best selling book of the same name.
Seeing in the Dark premiers in September 2007 on PBS in the States.
