Green Umbrella Limited was founded 16 years ago by Peter Jones and Nigel Ashcroft
to produce distinctive factual television programmes for the worldwide market.
Green Umbrella quickly gained a reputation for spectacular and memorable Natural
History programmes produced for broadcasters such as the BBC, National Geographic,
The Discovery Channel and America's PBS network. From single programmes such as The
Battle for Braveheart, Tales of the Calypso Isles and The Temple Troop, to major
series including Living Europe, The Triumph of Life, Animal Minds and The Ultimate
Guides, Green Umbrella has brought a distinctive style and quality to television.
History programmes include Escape from Berlin, Bataan Rescue and The Great
Transatlantic Cable - the last two made in association with Green Umbrella's Los
Angeles based sister company, Green Umbrella LLC. John and Abigail, a portrait of
America's second president and his wife was directed by Peter Jones for WGBH and
launched the new series of American Experience in 2006.
Green Umbrella has also produced a large number of award winning science programmes
including Einstein Revealed, In Search of Our Ancestors, The Mystery of the Senses,
The Ultimate Guides, The Search for Longitude, Journey to the Centre of the Earth
and Galileo's Daughter. Most recently, Nigel Ashcroft has directed a PBS high
definition astronomy special entitled Seeing in the Dark - premiering in September
2007 on PBS in the States.
